Pa. legislature gives final OK for casino table games; 2% local share directed toward community college

Both the Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives have passed table games legislation, and Gov. Ed Rendell is expected to sign the bill today. This legislation directs 2% of local table games revenue to establish and maintain a community college in our area. Early estimates are that the 2% will generate approximately $1.5 million. Under the legislation, our community will have four years to establish a community college.

REthink Erie appreciates the efforts of Senator Earll, Representative Fabrizio, and our local delegation of representatives for their support of the Table Games Legislation. Their efforts bring the Erie region closer to creating a community college to address our region's workforce and educational needs.

What's Next?
At this time REthink Erie is developing a pro forma business plan reflecting projected available revenue, the use of existing space and equipment, and the delivery of programs that our community needs. The collaborative group is also preparing an economic impact study to quantify the projected return on our financial investment.  Additionally, they are continuing their work on the required community college application for local and state consideration. Taking these steps will give us a full package of information to present to a potential local sponsor.
